Privacy Policy
By Unknot Words · Last updated
This policy explains what information Unknot Words (“we”, operated by Unknot Words) collects when you use this website, how it is used, and the choices you have. We don't require accounts and don't ask for your name, email address or other personal details to use the solvers.
Information we process
Your searches
When you use a solver, the letters, clues and options you enter are sent to our server so it can find matching words. They are used only to return results and are not linked to your identity.
Technical and log data
Like most websites, our hosting provider (Microsoft Azure) and our monitoring tools record technical information about requests, such as IP address, browser type, the page requested, the time of the request and error details. We use this to keep the site secure, diagnose problems and measure performance. Logs are kept for a limited period and are not used to build profiles of individual visitors.
Browser storage
We store your light/dark theme preference in your browser's local storage so the site remembers it. This stays on your device, is not sent to us and can be cleared at any time in your browser settings.
Advertising and cookies
Unknot Words is free because it is supported by advertising. We use Google AdSense to show ads.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info or, in Europe, www.youronlinechoices.eu.
- To learn more about how Google uses information, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
If personalised ads are turned off, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which use cookies for frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention.
Consent in the EEA, UK and Switzerland
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be asked for your consent before advertising cookies are used for personalised ads. This consent message is provided through Google's certified consent management platform, and you can change your choice at any time using the privacy settings link it provides.
US state privacy rights
Residents of some US states, including California, have rights to know about, access, delete and opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising. Because we do not hold accounts or profiles, the main personal information involved is the advertising data processed by Google. You can exercise opt-out choices through Google Ads Settings and the industry links above, or contact us with any request.
Children
The solvers and guides are suitable for students, but the site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Teachers using the site in class should follow their school's policies on online tools and advertising.
Links to other sites
Our pages link to other websites, such as Google's policy pages. Their privacy practices are their own, and we encourage you to read their policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes or the law requires. The “Last updated” date at the top of the page shows when it was last revised.
